Hume's Bakery has sat at the heart of Halstead high street for over sixty years since our opening day on 1st April 1960. Our roots go back even further to a small bakers shop in the small village of Bures by Albert Hume. Once Dennis decided to join in with the family craft, we decided to open our Halstead shop too.
When customers walk into our bakery, they’re immediately greeted by a delicious smell of freshly baked bread and cakes that has graced over four generations
We've been baking in Halstead for sixty years and have been serving our iconic sasuage rolls to nearly four generations. Almost all of our goods are handcrafted, baked and served with a side of love, all on site.

Our Baked Goods
At Hume's Bakery, we make almost everything fresh-from-scratch every day, using the finest, freshest and local ingredients. Come by to taste some of our delicious goods that we've been serving the community for sixty years.

Fresh Rolls
Our Fresh Rolls are freshly baked daily a mere few hours before the door opens for the day. The flour to create these rolls comes from a local flour miller, CARRS. All of our customers just love our Fresh Rolls, and keep coming back for more… some even twice in one day! Varieties of rolls include white crusty and soft, wholemeal, multiseed and cobber. Others available by order.
Delicious Cakes
A number of delicious and handmade cakes are baked throughout the day to ensure freshness for our customers. Cakes include jam doughnuts, ring doughnuts, Belgian buns, chelsea buns and so much more. Stop by and try!
Fresh Bread
Our bread is baked with the freshest and best flour from Carrs. Expertly made and baked on site by our team of expert bakers. Our bread has been coming out of the same oven for sixty years, and holds a very special place in the hearts of all of our customers. Take some home today, or pre-order bread by ringing 01787 472375
Fresh Savouries
Our fresh savouries are baked fresh daily to perfection, and are a real crowd pleaser. Our range include sausage rolls, pasties, meat pies, cheese and bacon wraps. We also cater for vegetarians with cheese and onion pasties and feta and spinach.
Our Sausage rolls have become folk-lore in Halstead over the last sixty years. Children who clammered to buy them have become parents and now bring their children to buy them.
